Dr Jones is a consultant liaison psychiatrist working in the NHS, specialising in care at the interface between physical and psychological health. She has a broad range of skills and interests, with a particular focus on treating conditions where there are overlapping physical and mental health symptoms.
Dr Jones studied medicine at the University of Cambridge where she carried out an intercalated year in physiology, development and neuroscience. Following her junior doctor rotations, she volunteered as a doctor at a clinic in rural Madagascar, and worked in New Zealand where she became interested in the psychological treatment of patients in the regional Burns Unit. She returned to complete her training in psychiatry at University College London before moving down to Sussex. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Neuropsychiatry, the study of which relates to psychiatric symptoms arising from neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis and functional neurological disorders.
Dr Jones works at Sussex Partnership NHS Trust when not working privately. She is an honorary clinical lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and leads modules on Biological Sciences in Psychiatry. She is part of a ‘Psychological Medicine’ working group, exploring how to improve access to integrated mind-body services in Sussex.
Whilst Dr Jones holds a strong interest in improving our understanding of how the structure and function of the brain relates to psychiatric and psychological symptoms, she works holistically, with a focus on the importance of personal, social and cultural factors in improving mental health. She has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, the effects of trauma, ADHD, OCD, eating disorders and medically unexplained symptoms.
Outside of work, Dr Jones enjoys walking her dog in the Downs, getting lost in a good book, and exploring her creative side through local art classes and experimentation at home.
