Dr Kristina Antonova is a psychiatrist with over 18 years’ experience working in the NHS. She has a warm and caring approach and an extensive range of clinical skills including assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorders, cognitive disorders, and older adults’ mental health. She currently works as a consultant in Brighton specialising in older people’s mental health and memory assessment. 

In 2019 she received a Clinical Excellence Award for her work in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  During the Covid-19 pandemic Dr Antonova was Clinical Director of Adult Services in Brighton for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (2020 – 2022). Her leadership and mentoring style is one of authenticity, support and encouragement, and she believes people are all unique and have inherent value and skills within them.

After graduating with a psychology degree from University College London, Dr Antonova completed a degree in medicine at St George’s Medical School, London, where she discovered a love of psychiatry. She went on to train as a psychiatrist, specialising as a general adult psychiatrist and later developing a passion for working with older people. During her psychiatry training Dr Antonova completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, giving her fundamental knowledge in relational aspects of mental distress. As a consultant she obtained a distinction in a Postgraduate Certificate in Dementia Studies. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Clinical Interests

Dr Antonova is a passionate advocate for women’s mental health and LGBTQI+ individuals who may feel discriminated in traditional health services. She offers a compassionate, holistic assessment in which everyone is treated as an individual, whilst recognising the societal and structural barriers some people face in society.

Personal Interests

When not working she spends time making wonky pottery, and enjoys reading and watching sci fi films.
