Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterised by intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety.

While many people experience occasional intrusive thoughts, those with OCD often feel driven to carry out rituals or avoid situations to ease the distress these thoughts cause. OCD isn’t just about cleanliness or checking, it can involve fears around harm, morality, health, relationships or identity.

OCD can affect every part of life, from relationships and work, to day-to-day tasks. Early support can reduce the severity of symptoms and improve overall wellbeing.

Waiting times for OCD-specific support can be long, and access to specialist therapy or prescribing consultants is often limited. Choosing private treatment means:

  • You will be seen quickly by a clinician experienced in OCD
  • Treatment is tailored specifically to your presentation and goals
  • Sessions are delivered consistently, without interruption
  • You can access both psychological therapy and psychiatric input under one roof

Private treatment also offers continuity, with the same clinician supporting you throughout your journey.

We recognise that OCD is complex and personal. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but research shows that OCD responds well to specific evidence-based interventions. At Flint Healthcare, we typically combine the following:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT, specifically a type called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the recommended first-line treatment for OCD. It helps you gradually face your fears without resorting to compulsions, allowing anxiety to decrease over time.

Our therapists are experienced in delivering ERP in a safe, paced and collaborative way.

Some people benefit from medication alongside therapy. Our psychiatrists can prescribe and monitor the use of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), which are commonly used in OCD treatment. Medication is always discussed thoroughly and never imposed.

Psychoeducation & Support

Understanding how OCD works can be empowering. We take time to explain what’s happening in your brain and body, helping you feel less alone and more equipped to challenge unhelpful cycles.

We also offer support for family members who may be involved in compulsions or struggling to understand how best to help.

OCD is highly varied, and many people don’t realise their symptoms fall under the OCD umbrella. Some of the forms we support include:

  • Contamination fears (germs, illness, chemicals)
  • Checking and reassurance-seeking
  • Intrusive thoughts around harm or violence
  • Relationship OCD (ROCD)
  • Sexual or moral obsessions (e.g., religious OCD)
  • Symmetry, order or counting compulsions

Whatever the theme, the underlying cycle is the same. Intrusive thought → distress → compulsion → temporary relief → more thoughts. Breaking this cycle is possible with the right approach.

Our OCD treatment service is open to:

  • Adults and teenagers aged 16+
  • People with longstanding OCD or recent symptoms
  • Individuals unsure whether their thoughts/behaviours indicate OCD
  • Clients who’ve tried therapy before and need a different approach
  • Those dealing with co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or neurodivergence

We understand that shame often keeps people from seeking support. You won’t be judged here, only supported.

Our OCD treatment is available at two discreet, welcoming locations:

Brighton: Ideal for those across Sussex, our clinic offers a calm space for therapy and psychiatric consultations.

London: Centrally located for easy access, especially for professionals or those wanting high-quality support in the capital.
