Dr Saleema Durgahee is a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist with dual expertise in General Adult
Psychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry, alongside specialist clinical practice in Perinatal Mental Health.
She brings over 15 years of NHS experience, offering comprehensive assessment and evidencebased
treatment for adults with complex mental health needs.
In her current role as a Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist in Sussex, Dr Durgahee provides
comprehensive, collaborative care for individuals planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or within
the first postnatal year. She offers specialist assessment, formulation, and treatment planning for a
wide range of perinatal mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, birthrelated trauma,
bipolar disorder, psychosis, and complex preexisting mental illness. Her practice includes
preconception advice and treatment planning, supporting individuals to make informed decisions
about medication, mental health stability, and risk management ahead of pregnancy.
Dr Durgahee also provides dedicated women’s mental health care, supporting individuals
experiencing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), perimenopausal mood disturbance, and
mental health difficulties linked to hormonal change. She regularly works with women living with
neurodiversity, including ADHD and autism, where symptoms may fluctuate or intensify during the
perinatal period or in relation to hormonal cycles. Her approach integrates psychiatric expertise with
an understanding of the psychological, social, and physical factors that shape women’s mental health
across the reproductive lifespan.
