Thanos (Athanasios) Tsoumpris

Dr Thanos (Athanasios) Tsoumpris is a consultant psychiatrist in general adult and perinatal mental health. He works at the Lambeth Perinatal Mental Health Team, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM), and the Adult ADHD Service of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL).

Thanos has treated patients in the NHS for more than 10 years, having completed his training at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the East London NHS Foundation Trust.  He has been working as a general adult consultant psychiatrist since 2019 with specialisms in perinatal mental health and diagnosis and management of ADHD.

He is a GMC accredited clinical and educational supervisor, providing supervision to resident psychiatrists. He has worked within the Perinatal Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and has contributed to service development and improvement within his NHS roles. Within his SLaM employment, he is actively involved in perinatal mental health research concerning the onset of bipolar disorder in the perinatal period and the long-term clinical outcomes of postpartum psychosis.

In addition to his psychiatric training, he holds a qualification in psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr Thanos has expertise in

• providing assessment and treatment in working age adults for a wide range of mental health conditions including depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders including OCD, stress disorders including PTSD, psychotic disorders, as well as assessment and management of difficulties arising or deteriorating during pregnancy or within the first postnatal year

• providing assessment and treatment for adult ADHD

• helping women/birthing people with history of mental health difficulties, including adult ADHD, plan for the management of their mental health in a future pregnancy

In his free time, he can be found at his local tennis club where he is now trying to perfect his underarm serve.
