Dr Rick Fraser is a Consultant Psychiatrist dual accredited as a specialist in both Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and General Adult Psychiatry, with a focus on youth psychiatry and early intervention.
At Flint Healthcare, Dr Fraser sees suitable young people and young adults aged 16–25 presenting with a range of general mental-health difficulties. For young people aged 14–17, referrals are considered on an individual basis following initial screening, with a focus on appropriate non-acute and lower-risk presentations.
Dr Fraser specialises in neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD and tic disorders, as well as mood disorders, anxiety disorders and OCD, particularly where these present in older adolescents and young adults.
Dr Fraser has extensive experience in Early Intervention in Psychosis. However, Flint Healthcare does not currently offer an acute psychosis, crisis or emergency pathway.
Dr Fraser studied Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London and trained in Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry, initially specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
He spent much of his clinical career working in Early Intervention in Psychosis Services with young people and adults aged 14–35. This included six years at EPPIC in Melbourne, where he gained specialist accreditation in General Adult Psychiatry and was Medical Director from 2005 to 2010.
On returning to the UK, Dr Fraser worked in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he was Clinical Director and then Chief Medical Officer from 2017 to 2021.
He also led the Sussex youth mental-health pathway and has written a guide for working with young adults experiencing mental-health difficulties, which is used by NHS England.
Dr Fraser has expertise in assessing and treating neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition and ADHD, including where these occur alongside mental-health difficulties.
He uses a range of evidence-based medication interventions where clinically appropriate, social prescribing and psychologically informed formulation. He works collaboratively with Clinical Psychologists, Therapists and other professionals to support recovery and help people achieve their goals in a safe and structured way.
Flint Healthcare is not an emergency, crisis or general CAMHS service. Dr Fraser’s current Flint pathway is for planned outpatient assessment and treatment. It is not suitable for urgent or high-risk presentations, including active suicidal intent, significant current self-harm risk, acute psychosis or immediate safeguarding concerns.
All enquiries are reviewed as part of Flint Healthcare’s clinical triage process before an appointment is offered, to ensure that the service and proposed pathway are appropriate to the individual’s needs.
Dr Fraser has previously been a Senior Lecturer at Melbourne University and Brighton and Sussex Medical School and enjoys teaching and learning. He has research interests in youth mental health, Autism Spectrum Conditions and First Episode Psychosis, with publications, book chapters and lectures on these subjects.
Dr Fraser stepped down from his role in the NHS in 2025 and now works solely at Flint Healthcare.
Outside of his work at Flint, Dr Fraser enjoys spending time with his family, writing, cycling, playing music and motorcycle adventures.
